How to minimize Internet data usage in Windows 10

In order to change the setting to “Metered” you need to click on the “Start” button (the windows key on your keyboard), then go to “Settings” in the menu, select “Network and Internet” from the list, now go to “Wi-Fi” and then click on “Advanced Options”.

The box that opens now will display the second option as “Metered connection”. Click on the slider beneath it to put it “ON”.

• Switch Off Background Apps

In such cases, it is rather safe to switch off of these offenders or apps in order to save yourself some data.

Go to “Settings”, click on “Privacy” and now locate “Background apps”. Switch off the “Background apps” options and then scroll through and switch off any other apps that you think you do not require and are finishing your data.

• Set “One Drive” Off

One Drive is one of the other background apps in the Windows 10 that depletes your data in no time. It is indeed one of the most crucial apps in the Windows 10 OS disabling which can be a radical step, however, not many of us need it running in the background at all times. Yes, the One Drive does help you sync your files which makes life simpler, but that can be even done in the next cyber café. In order to deactivate the One Drive, right clicking on the “Task Bar” will open up a list. • Deactivate PC Synchronization Function

Even though you may admire the PC sync function being the Windows 10 trademark feature, the fact is that it eats up a considerable portion of your data. In case if you are not interested in the Feeds you can deactivate it the “Live Tiles” and opt out of it. Right click on the option “Tile” and select the option that says “Turn live tile off” and you are done!

• Disable Bandwidth Sharing ! 

Windows 10 have come up with an improvement in its Windows Update option that allows it to sync updates from a local network PC in a P2P (peer-to-peer) style named “Windows Update Delivery Optimization” or WUDO.

WUDO is ideal for situations if your OS is set up with “Metered” connection but have more than one computer using the Windows 10 operating system. However, if the computers in the local network are of the same built, you can make use of only computer to update the other.

In order to deactivate this configuration click open “Settings” option from clicking on the windows start key and then settings.

Then select “Update and Security”.

Go to “Windows Update”.

Finally select “Choose how updates are delivered”.

Once you reach this option slide it to “OFF” and there you go!

WUDO is a dicey feature offered by Windows 10 since in its Home and Pro versions the WUDO is set in such a way that it transports Windows Update info to other computers via the internet, but only to computers in the local network in Education and Enterprise versions. So in situations where you are bound in a limited modem speed it is a better idea to stay away from sharing updates online with other computers.

Delay Windows Update ! Only for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise users

Yes! You also have this convenient feature in Windows 10 which allows you to actually delay/defer the Windows Updates. So if your PC is running an OS which is either Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise, you will find an option in the settings section of the Windows Update that will let you delay/defer the procedure of new features download for quite a few months. This definitely makes a huge impact as any update to the new features can be significantly big.

And what’s more, delaying the Windows Update will not disturb either the download process or the installation procedure of the security updates! Also, it will not affect the downloading of the features forever, but only for a limited period.

Go to the “Setting” option, click open the “Update and Security”, now select “Windows Update” and then click “Advanced Options”. Toggle towards the bottom and click on the check box next to the option that says “Defer Upgrades”. However, remember that by turning this on will also defer “Microsoft Updates”.

Please note that you need not apply all the options that we mentioned here and you should rather apply the ideas based on the type of connection that runs on your OS. However, when applied tactfully these ideas will help you control the data consumption by Windows 10 in a much better fashion, thereby helping you save a good amount of data.

Google has flagged 'IDM integration' as malicious! [SOLVED]

IDM extension is getting flagged as malicious by Google.

Temp Fix : 

1) Go to setting and disable "Enable phishing and malware protection", then try to install the crx again. It works for me (Though Not recommended) .

2) Alternate way to bypass this restriction.

- Go to "Internet Download Manager" folder in the "Program Files".
- Look for file IDMGCExt.crx (This is the IDM integration extension for Chrome)
- Using 7Zip or Winzip or Winrar extract the contents of the file to a folder on desktop (or where you can write data, since in the program files you need permissions to write)
- Copy the folder with the files extracted to the folder of IDM in Program Files
- Open extensions page on Google Chrome and enable the developer mode.
- Click on button "Load unpacked extension" (or something like that), navigate to the folder where you extracted the files and choose it. Done. IDM extension will be back.

Android Nougat - and everything else you need to know about!

The Android Nougat release date is here, at least for some phones and tablets. Find out which Google-powered devices are getting the Android 7.0 update besides Nexus phones. HTC has also announced its update schedule, but there's no word on which HTC Desire phones will see the upgrade.

Android Nougat is Google's latest update of its phone and tablet operating system - an OS that's been so thoroughly refined that the company is now more than halfway through the alphabet with names, at letter 14 of 26.




The real shocker is that Google didn't wait to announce Android Nougat at Google IO 2016. The reason behind this was to give developers several months to tinker with the update, according to the company. Hopefully that means phone makers and app developers are prepared for Android 7

Android Nougat release date

Android Nougat is out right now, but when you'll get the upgrade is going to depend on a few criteria. If you have a Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Google Pixel C, Nexus Player or an Android One device you'll soon get the upgrade. If you have a Nexus 5 you're sadly going to miss out on Android Nougat.


It's rolling out now and you'll get the new software in the "coming weeks", according to Google. If you have a phone or tablet from another manufacturer the wait is likely to take some time.

Manufacturers and carriers have to rework their own version of the software and push it out to users - and that can take months. What phones will get Android N?

We can hear you out there screaming, "when is Android Nougat update coming to my phone?!" If you've got a recent flagship phone, you should be in luck. Most phone and tablet makers try and push the software to devices that are less than two years old, but it may be quite a wait.

Each manufacturer can take time to tweak the updates. Take Android Marshmallow for example, some phones still don't have the update. If you want the latest software, it's best to get a Nexus device, as the newest version of Android will always be pushed to that first.

Google and Sony surprised us when it announced that the Sony Xperia Z3 would received the developer edition of the Nougat software, but oddly, the phone won't be getting the full Nougat upgrade. However, many of its other Sony phones will, including the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium,Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance. Phew. No specific time frame has been announced, but stay tuned.

LG has boldly claimed that it'll have the first new Android Nougat phone to launch on Tuesday, September 6. That's when the LG V20 is set to launch with dual camera goodness. We don't know about the LG G5, LG V10 or LG G4 update prospects just yet, but the company may announce more details at its press conference, so stay tuned, Life's Gooders.

HTC has confirmed it will be bringing Android Nougat to the HTC 10, One A9 and One M9 by the end of the 2016, while the HTC has also told TechRadar the One M8 will not get the upgrade.

Motorola has also confirmed the Moto G4 Plus will get Android 7 software in the future. The strange thing is, Motorola also confirmed the phone will be updated to Android O when it comes around as well. That's software Google hasn't even announced yet and there's no guarantee Android 8 will be named after the letter O.

Meanwhile Samsung will work hard to get Nougat on the Galaxy Note 7 within the next two to three months - so we have our fingers crossed the update will come to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge soon as well.

Even the little known Nextbit Robin is confirmed to be getting the Android Nougat update. Stay tuned, as we're going to continue prodding each manufacturer for information until they fess up to their complete Android N plans.
Android Nougat VR

We've tested out a bunch of existing Android Nougat features below, but there's one exciting new tool that isn't part of the update: Google Daydream.

Longtime Nexus users will also be happy to hear that the quick settings switches can be sorted to your liking, much like they can on other Android phones. You won't need the System UI Tuner to meddle.

For example, I often use MiFi more than Airplane Mode, so Mobile Hotspot icon get promoted to be one of the five icons along the top of the initial quick settings on my Nexus 6P.

That little airplane icon is still there for my takeoff and landings needs, but it got the bump to the second swipe menu. Sorting is finally up to you, which is really what Android is all about.

Google's not done with the way Android N changes notifications. It also announced that notification cards will be grouped together if they're from the same app.

All messages from a specific messaging app, for example, are bundled together in the notification shade. These grouped alerts can then be expanded into individual notifications using a two-finger gesture or tapping the all-new expansion button.
